Everyone feels horrible already- don’t make it worse

Everyone feels horrible and sad already.  Out job is to reflect on the positive aspects of your loved one’s life.  Most expect it to be sad and heart wrenching – but it doesn’t have to be.   There are several things we can do to appropriately make the 45 minute service uplifting and positive.

How to make the service positive and uplifting

There are several things we can do to help keep it positive and uplifting and inspiring.

1. Keep the tone up beat
2. Allow tributes to bring fun and light stories
3. Give permission for folks to smile
4. Invite folks to wear bright colors instead of black
5. Play music that makes folks smile – music that the loved one enjoyed
6. Create a video slideshow with funny photos
7. Give the minister permission to keep it light
8. Hire live music that is light and fun
9. Inform the folks that we are going to treat this as a “graduation” not a funeral
10. Choose Bible passages that point to heaven not death
